Consumption-based screening of climate change footprints for cities worldwide

چکیده
With long-term prospects indicating worldwide increasing urbanization over the next decades, cities are responsible for a growing share of global greenhouse gas emissions. This makes local policies more important in mitigating climate change, and calls efficient tools allowing decision makers to measure impact urban areas under their control. study introduces parsimonious screening tool cater this need allow governments gauge monitor consumption-based change footprint cities. The consists multiple-regression models that operate on easily accessible city data. To demonstrate its applicability, per capita is estimated 949 Australian found have highest per-capita footprint, averaging 20.4 t CO2-eq, while South American lowest 8.1 CO2-eq. results evaluated against IPCC mitigation pathways judge which track an absolute sustainable level Few be comply with necessary levels 2030, findings thus substantiate all planet major actions required mitigation.

Climate change has driven many organisms to shift their seasonal timing. Are humans also shifting their weather-related behaviors such as outdoor recreation? Here we show that peak attendance in US national parks experiencing climate change has shifted 4 days earlier since 1979. Of the nine parks experiencing significant increases in mean spring temperatures, seven also exhibit shifts in the ti...

متن کاملMapping Local Climate Zones for a Worldwide Database of the Form and Function of Cities
Progress in urban climate science is severely restricted by the lack of useful information that describes aspects of the form and function of cities at a detailed spatial resolution. To overcome this shortcoming we are initiating an international effort to develop the World Urban Database and Access Portal Tools (WUDAPT) to gather and disseminate this information in a consistent manner for urba...
